Abstract

The combinations between GA3 for 2 hours with the two concentrations (3 or 6 g/L) from the blue dye for two periods (1 or 2hours) significantly increased the vase life of Mums cut flowers compared to the combinations between distilled water without any growth regulators with the two edible dyes (red or blue dye).The combination treatment of 25 mg/L GA3 for 2h and 6 g/L blue dye for 3h was more effective in increasing the change of fresh weight percentage of Mums cut flowers comparing with most of the other interactions. While the combination between the distilled water without any growth regulators (control) and most of the dyeing treatments produced lower percentage for this regard.The highest value of maximum increase in fresh weight % were obtained when the interaction between GA3 at 25 mg/L for 2h and the blue dye at 6 g/L for 3h or the combination of 5 mg/L kin for 1h and the blue dye at 6 g/L for 3h were used, when compared with most of the other combinations. While, the lowest value of this character recorded for Mums cut flowers which pulsed for 1h in 25 mg/L GA3 solution and dyed with 3 g/L from the red dye for 3h. The highest total water uptake were obtained from the interaction between using 5 mg/L kin for 2 hours, and then treated with the blue dye at 3 g/L for 3 hours. Followed by, cut flowers which treated with the combination of 25 mg/L GA3 for 2 hour + the blue dye at 6 g/L for 3 hours. On the other side, the lowest value for this parameter was recorded by Mums cut flowers treated with the interaction between kin for 2h and the distilled water without any dyes (control).The best change of water uptake value was obtained from the interaction between GA3 at 25 mg/L for 2h and the blue dye at 6 g/L for 3h. Since, a significant increase of water uptake on the 4th and 8th days of shelf life period were tabulated when compared with the interaction treatment between the distilled water without any growth regulators and distilled water without any dyes.The interactions between 25 mg/L GA3 for 2h and 6g/L blue dye for 3h recorded the lowest amounts of water loss during the shelf life of Mums cut flowers comparing with most of the other interactions. While the combinations of 5 mg/L kin for 2h + distilled water without dyeing or 5 mg/L kin for 2h + 6g/L blue dye for 2 or 3h recorded the highest amounts of water loss especially in the start of the experiment on the 4th days until the 16th day comparing with most of the other interactions. The interaction between 25 mg/L GA3 for 2h and 6g/L blue dye for 3h had a better value of water balance during the shelf life period. However, the lowest value recorded for using the interactions between 5 mg/L kin for 2h + distilled water without dyeing or 5 mg/L kin for 2h + 6g/L blue dye for 2 or 3h comparing with most of the other interactions.The interaction between the blue dye concentrations of 6 g/L for 3h with all the growth regulators treatments including the highest chlorophyll a, b and total chlorophyll content in leaves of Mums cut flowers comparing with all of the other interactions.The interaction between blue dye at 6 g/L for 3h and all the growth regulators (GRs) solutions significantly recorded the highest total sugar mg/g F.W. in leaves of Mums cut flowers than all the other interactions. While the lowest value of total sugar recorded when combinations of distilled water without growth regulators + distilled water without dyeing or 5 mg/L kin for 1h + distilled water without dyes were used. It could be recommended for using the interaction treatment between GA3 at 25 mg/L for 2 hours as a growth regulators pulsing solution + 6 g/L from the blue dye (Brilliant blue) for 3 hours as dyeing solution to obtain the longest vase life, increase fresh weight, increase water uptake, decrease water loss, improve water balance and for obtain the highest chlorophyll a, b and total chlorophyll content, total sugar content, also least bacterial counts of Mums (Dendranthema grandiflorum Ram. cv. ”Flyer”) cut flowers.
