Abstract Kidneys conserve fluid components necessary to maintain homeostasis in the body. In the current study, the qualitative renal histology, ultrastructure, haematology and serum biochemistry of Cattle egret from two habitats and Squacco heron from Manzala Lake were examined. The increasing in the number of the filtration slits in renal corpuscle in the Squacco heron indicating its ability to filter large amount of water to adapt to its aquatic environment. The well-developed medulla and increasing in mitochondria number in proximal and distal tubule in Cattle egret indicated its ability to concentrate urine comparing to Squacco heron. Non-significant differences between Cattle egret taking from two habitats in hematological and serum parameters suggests that plasma chemistries of Cattle egret are robust in the face of different captive environmental conditions. |
