Abstract

This study was made for KORATEX paint factory located in 10th of Ramadan to overcome an environmental problem due to direct disposal to city sewerage system without pretreatment that cause illegal situation to the factory. The study has been done to get the optimal solution for the treatment of the factory wastewater.
A pilot lab scale was erected in the factory laboratory with four parallel treatment lines each line represented different method of treatment (chemical treatment, physico-chemical treatment, physical-biological treatment and physico-chemical & biological treatment) and the samples was taken continuously for 4 months from the inlet, outlet and between the units of treatment to determine the parameters (BOD, COD, TSS, TDS and heavy metals. A technical & economical comparison was made between the four treatment lines to determine the optimal solution for treatment with low cost.
The optimal solution was the physico-chemical treatment line that achieved good efficiency for parameters removal by 85-95% with achieving 65.91% in technical evaluation and lower cost in both initial & running costs that achieved in the final evaluation his getting the first grade with the other treatment lines.
The fourth line achieved the optimal removal ratios but with higher in cost compared with other lines. The study recommended the use of physico-chemical treatment if the wastewater will be disposed in the city sewerage system if else the use of phisico-chemical & biological must be applied.
