Abstract

Trauma is common in intermediate age group in both adult and pediatrics. Also the comparison between both groups as regard to sex showed that trauma to male is more common than trauma to female in both groups. The most common cause of blunt trauma in pediatric is motor vehicle accident followed by falling from height and the third common cause is kick from domestic animal and the fourth common cause is direct blow while in adult the most common cause of blunt abdominal trauma is motor vehicle accident followed by fall from height as in pediatric group while blow to abdomen is the third common cause and trauma from domestic animal comes as the fourth common cause of blunt abdominal trauma in adults. Transport to hospital by private method is more common in both adults and pediatrics than by ambulance transport. Time till admission to hospital has common delay in transport more than one hour to hospital while adults show more cases with delay in transport than pediatric group patients. Text in English, abstract in Arabic and English. Delay in transport to operating room is more common in adults than in pediatrics. Isolated abdominal trauma is less common in both groups of study than multiple body trauma while isolated blunt abdominal trauma is more common in pediatrics than in adults. Positive radiological data is more common in adult group of age than in pediatric group of age and HCT less than 30 is more common in pediatric group of age and raised liver enzymes is more common in pediatric group of age also. Pediatric non operative management is more common than non operative management in adults. Spleen is the most common injured organ in both groups followed by the liver then retroperitoneal heamatoma and mesenteric tears comes in the third position. Bloody peritoneal tapping is more common in adult group of study than in pediatric group of study and negative tapping is more common in pediatric group of study. Intraabdominal collection is the most common morbidity in children while in adult there is non significant common morbidity. Mortality is common in pediatric than in adults and the most common cause of mortality in pediatric is shock followed by tension pneumothorax while in adult group of study the most common cause of death is shock or toxemia .
