Abstract Bronchiolitis is a common seasonal viral lower respiratory tract infection that predominantly affects infants under 12 months of age, characterized by obstruction of small airways ,caused by acute inflammation, edema and necrosis of the epithelial cells lining the small airways as well as increased mucus production. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is responsible for most cases. However, other viruses, including human metapneumovirus (HMPV), rhino virus, influenza and par influenza. Younger infants are often more severely affected and very young infants (under 6 weeks), presented with apnea, cough, tachypnea and increased work of breathing, with or without fever, without a consolidation on the x-ray with hyperinflation ,widespread crepitation’s and wheeze on auscultation. |
