Abstract

HCV is a major etiologic agent of chronic hepatitis and the main cause of chronic liver disease. HCV infection is associated with a higher risk of CAD. Some evidence shows a positive association among HCV infection and presence of carotid artery plaque and carotid intima medial thickening.
HCV sero –positivity might be considered one of the risk factors for coronary artery disease. HCV also affect risk factors of CHD. Levels of C –reactive protein and fibrinogen were significantly higher in the HCV seropositive group.
This study was carried out to demonstrate correlation between HCV infections and incidences of CHD in different stages of liver disease. This study include 43 patients have chronic HCV virus infection are classified into 3 groups according to Child – Pugh score and 15 healthy subjects served as a healthy control group.
Serum or plasma of all mentioned groups was subjected to the following determination.
1. Liver function tests; determination of serum alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and gamma gltumayl transferase (GGT) activities and serum bilirubin, albumin and total protein and Alfa feto protein (AFP)levels, measurement of prothrombine time; to calculate INR.
2. Cardiac function enzymes; serum lactate dehydrogenase
(LDH) and creatine kinase (CK) activities.
