Abstract

Storm drainage system is designed to collect storm water runoff from the roadway surface and right-of-way, convey it along and through the right-of-way, and discharge it to a storm water conveyance system without causing adverse on- or off-site impacts.
Recent flooding events have revealed deficiencies in existing storm water infrastructure and management practices. The development of effective and efficient design requires a comprehensive understanding of flooding in urban areas and complex closed conduits, open channel and overland flow systems.
Several hydraulic models perform the analysis of storm water networks (i.e. Storm CAD, EPASWMM and PCSWMM) each of these programs has a different solver engine.
The main goal of this work is to reach a practical and economical solution of the existing flooded network, a comparison will be carried out between the mentioned programs. A new (1D/2D) technique will be also applied; the main advantage of this type of modeling technique is that a simulation will be created at the ground surface to find ponding area locations to target them with an appropriate solution.
