Abstract

Lymphoproliferative disorders are the most important malignancies of childhood, accounting for half of pediatric malignancies. Acute leukemia accounts for one third of childhood cancer with 80% being ALL. Pediatric lymphomas form 11% of all pediatric malignancies with 60 % ofthem being NHL.
This study was designed to determine the cohort of lymphoproliferative disorders patients with maximum likelihood of developing metabolic derangements and renal dysfunction.
This prospective study included 160 newly diagnosed lymphoproliferative disorders patients, 100
ALL and 60 NHL. Age ofthe patients ranged between 2-
15 years with a median of 6 years for NHL patients and 5 yeas for ALL patients. the male to female ration was 3 : 1 and 2.8 : 1 for NHL and ALL patients respectively. 15 norinal controls were taken of the same age.
This study is limited to the events of the few days prior to initiation of the treatment and to those of the 1st treatment week. All the patients received supportive treatment therapy before starting chemotherapy.
