Abstract

application of new regulations on wastewater management, tllll its

Thi study oonccrns about the environmental im;>acts f:r one
of the method s of wastewater 1rcatment systems called stabi:i?..ation
ponds. The study evaluated the impacts oo soil insitu, groundwater, disposal point• at :;ca and
gt-ecn area irrigated by output effluent as well as air surround ing the plan t of this type con
trucled fi:om 14 years ago in Abu Rudie . The plant wa mouitored over 6 months of continuos
operation.
The re.qllllS of 1his Slndy provide that me Wastt;WdlCC Stabilizat ion Pond (WSP3) system is one of
dw simple wastewater treatment systems that easy to be appliod in developing countries
specially in desert areas. The WSP has Sllvcral impacTS on the environment, some of them are
positive impacts that improve the envirorunent in tb wea for all t)·p s of life; as improve the
output wastewater quality f-or reuse in land reclamation and irrigation of plants and attract new
\o\ ld life of animals and birds due to the creation of big slightl y saline water body. Another
some of impacts
are negative for the environment as the increase of insects, had mcll
gases produc1i on and effects on soil stability and quality.
