Abstract

The efficient shaping of the root canals and maintaining their curvature is an essential goal for every root canal treatment. The introduction of the new single file techniques is promising in providing efficient, safe and quick preparation with less time consuming and more comfortable to the patient.
The aim of this study was to evaluate ProTaper rotary Ni-Ti and WaveOne reciprocating Ni-Ti instruments in terms of Canal transportation, Remaining dentine thickness and Centering ability.
Thirty mesiobuccal canals of human mandibular molars were divided in two groups 15 mesiobuccal canals each. group A prepared with WaveOne files and group B prepared with Protaper files.
The teeth were fixed in position in impression compound inside plastic dental arch during the whole study for each group and then the teeth were scanned using Cone Beam Computed Tomography before and after preparation.
Fusion of the pre-instrumentation and post- instrumentation records was achieved using special software that allows manual and then automatic registration of the primary and secondary images. The data was tabulated and statistically analysed.
The result showed regarding to centering ability, remaining dentine thickness and transportation presence of insignificant difference between WaveOne file and Protaper file.
Conclusion:
Under the condition of the study the following was concluded:
1. Reciprocation motion promising in providing a well centered preparation.
2. WaveOne file provides more centered canal preparation and less transportation than Protaper system.
