Abstract

Nile tilapia, (Oreochromis Niloticus) is an important species of freshwater aquaculture and considered to be one of the most important warm-water cultured fish in the world. This study was conducted to determine the effect of oxytetracycline, florfenicol and potassium permanganate against A.hydrophila in Nile tilapia fish. A total number of 200 fish were divided into 5 equal groups (each of 40 fish) . Some hematological and biochemical parameters as well as some histological pictures of liver, gills and muscle tissues have been investigated. This study showed that treatment with potassium permanganate and oxytetracycline showed an improvement in all parameters at 14th day post medication and in histopathological pictures after 21 day post mediation. Moreover, the use of potassium permanganate with florfenicol also showed an improvement of examined hematological and biochemical parameters at 14th day post medication, as well as , an improvement in histopathological pictures at 21 day post medication, while in the group treated with potassium permanganate only there was no improvement in hematological or biochemical parameters –as well as- histopathological picture. It could be concluded that the use of potassium permanganate with oxytetracycline or with florfenicol has a powerful effect against A. hydrophilla infection in Oreochromis niloticus with slight reversible adverse effects on hematological and biochemical parameters.
