Abstract Background: Endometriosis is a common gynecological disorder affecting at least 11% of reproductive-age women. But increasing to approximately half of women experiencing pelvic pain or infertility. The true incidence and prevalence at the population level remains unknown, in part because of variable clinical diagnostic proficiency. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of visual diagnosis of endometriosis by laparoscopy in comparison to histopathological diagnosis. Methodology: The study was conducted in laparoscopy unit at Ain Shams Maternity Hospital in the period starting from January 2015 to January 2016. This study was conducted on 50 patients with ages ranging from 18-40 years. This study included 50 women scheduled for laparoscopy for pain and/or infertility. The study was designed to evaluate the accuracy of visual diagnosis of endometriosis by laparoscopy in comparison to histopathological diagnosis. Conclusion: This study also revealed the histopathology findings of false-suspected endometriosis by laparoscopy. Laparoscopy, particularly a first procedure, serves both a diagnostic and therapeutic purpose. The initial step is exploration of the pelvis and abdomen. Diagnosis of endometriosis by visual inspection of lesions at laparoscopy is considered satisfactory. |
