Abstract
Some physico-chemical studies on local sands were carried out on 12 samples collected from Egyptian Glass Company. which were deliver from Zafrana region during the period from July 1999 to January
2000. In order to study the suitability of these sands to produce good quality of glass, some test experiments were done using these sands as major constituent for glass production. These studies include the following experiments:-
1- Mechanical analysis
This method of analysis is used for the determination of the percentage of fine and coarse sands and the effect of chemical treatment on them .
2- Treating the different samples
by washing with water and acid solution
{hydrochloric acid 10% }.
3- Chemical analysis
This method of analysis includes the determination of the percentage of iron oxide ( Fe203 ) and silica ( Si02 ) content before and after treatment. also
several other analytical methods were used
