Abstract

The aim of this study was:
To evaluate the effect of functional dairy products containing stevia and xylitol sugar substitutes on enamel surface remineralization in experimental rats’ teeth.
PICO:
 Population: One month old Caries-free experimental rats.
 Intervention 1: Functional dairy products (Milk) containing Stevia Sugar-substitute (The International Association of Stevia Research Union, Stuttgart, Germany).
 Intervention 2: Functional dairy products (Milk) containing Xylitol Sugar-substitute (El-Nasr-Pharmaceutical, Chemicals Co, Egypt).
 Comparison: Functional dairy products (Milk) containing Sucrose (Hemajet, Islamic International Establishment for Chemical and Lab Materials, Egypt).
 Outcome: Remineralization of Enamel Surface Topography using Scanning electron microscope (SEM Quantum 52 SEG), measuring unit (micrometer) and increase in remineralizing minerals of enamel using EDX (Energy Dispersive X-rays Analysis).
Research question:
Do functional dairy products containing stevia and xylitol sugar substitutes enhance enamel remineralization and surface resistance to caries?
