Abstract

The Introduction studies the development of The Civil Rights movements and the waves of feminist movements in The United States. Chapter one which is entitled The Color Purple and Ultra Black. Pain presents the struggle of black women in their community, and how they try to solve their problems in two different ways. The first way exemplified by the protagonist Sofia who tries to solve her problems by violence. The second is embodied in Celie who tries to solve her problems by peaceful resistance. Chapter two which is entitled The Black Meridian and The White Necklace describes the life an activist young black woman called Meridian , and her attempt to defend women`s rights .The third Chapter which is entitled Self-fulfillment and Autonomy, attempts to prove that contemporary Black feminist writer`s contributions attempt to solve the Black peoples` problems in the New World. Conclusion: Alice Walker`s novels shed light on female suffering in the patriarchal community during the twentieth century. In her novels, she exhibits the conventional roles of women and their attempts to discover themselves in their society. She shows the successful role of black women in the Civil Rights Movements.
