Abstract
The current studies were conducted at Dokki
Protected Cultivation site, Giza Governorate, during 1997-
1998 and 1998-1999 seasons in order to investigate the growth and production of sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum) cv. Gedeon F1 hybrid under different plastic cover colours. Seeds were sown on July 16’11 ; 1997 & July
10’11, 1998 and seedlings were transplanted on first of
September 1997 & 1998, respectively.
Four treatments were applied as follow:
1- A greenhouse covered with red plastic colour; 2- A greenhouse cover d with blue plastic colour; 3- A greenhouse covered with violet plastic colour; 4- and a greenhouse covered with yellow-green (normal) plastic colour as control.
Significant differences among different treatments
were observed. The best results were obtained under the red plastic which had the highest total fruit weight, number of leaves and Abscisic acid content in the leaves, phosphorus and potassium content in the leaves followed by the control, blue, and finally violet plastic colour. The highest length of plant as well as total leaf area, GA3 and zeatin riboside content in the leaves, percentage of nitrogen and calcium content in the leaves were found in
the violet plastic colour, followed by blue then control and finally with the red plastic cover colour.
