Abstract

Adolescents often experience emotions of anger, resentment, hopelessness, and depression, feelings intensified by losing a parent or close family member. Adolescent orphans have different needs than normal adolescents and require different kinds of assistance. Of particular importance are secondary education, livelihood training, sexual and reproductive health education and services, psychosocial and social support for the difficult transition to independence and adulthood, and adult mentors as role models. Young people themselves, working with adults, can provide a useful resource in addressing many of these needs. The aim of the study was to :
Evaluate the effectiveness of psychosocial skills training program on improvement of self esteem and social Skills among adolescents in residential institutions.
To achieve this aim , the estimated sample size were was a convenient sample of 40 adolescents, was divided into two equal groups (20 study and 20 control) who fulfilled the following inclusion and exclusion criteria:
- Age from 11upto 20 years old - Resident in the institution for more than three months - Accept to participate and interact in the study - Free from any chronic illness or other organic disorders - Free from any history of psychiatric illness A- Study group (1): adolescents received the psychosocial skills training program and its practices, done at Sirs Ellian’s Girls Institution.
B- Control group (2): adolescents were exposed only to the study tools (pre/posttest), done at Shibin El Kom’s Girls Institution.
The study were conducted at Sirs Ellian’s and Shibin El Kom’s Girls Institutions at Menoufia Governorate. A quasi-experimental design – Two groups (Study group and Control group) was used in the current study.
