Abstract

A retrospective study using 110 endometrial tissue samples to assess immunohistochemistry of Ghrelin and CD24. Ghrelin was found to be a sensitive but not specific marker for the differentiation between atypical EH compared with endometrioid carcinoma. The expression of membranous and cytoplasmic CD24 was increased with lesion progression. The combined positive membranous and cytoplasmic CD24 expression was more frequent in endometrioid carcinoma and was statistically significant. The total positive CD24 expression was more sensitive than positive membranous or cytoplasmic expression alone in distinction of atypical EH from endometrioid carcinoma. Statistically significant positive association was found between combined positive CD24 immunostaining and histological grades. There was statistically significant negative correlation between Ghrelin and CD24 expressions. We concluded that combined Ghrelin negative and CD24 positive expression had high specificity and low sensitivity in the distinction of endometrioid carcinoma from atypical EH.
