Abstract

The current study conducted in plant protection department, Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University. Insects were obtained from cocoons collected from heavily infested date palm trees at Kassasin district in Ismailia Governorate.
The obtained results can be summarized as follows: 1. from biological studies: there were 13 larval instars 2. from morphological study: each ovariole consists of three zones: the germarium, the vitellarium (which divided into previtellogenic zone and vitellogenic zone) and the calyx zones with no terminal filament (absent). The highest mean length of vitellarium zone was in 20 days-old weevils, while calyx showed stable length and increased width until the 60th days. The highest mean number of oocytes in vitellarium zone and the calyx zone/ 2 ovaries was in 20 and 30 days-old weevils, respectively. The sperms transferred to female in the form of sperm bundles fluids no in spermatophore. 3. from histological study: there is no ovary sheath enclosing as a whole, but each ovariole has a wall which is made up of tunica propria sheath. 4. from physiological study: the results revealed nine distinct types of haemocytes in larval haemolymph, the prohaemocytes, was the fundamental types of haemocytes and adipohaemocytes was the biggest of all. The concentration of digestive enzymes increased during the larval duration and in date palm media except Cellulase&β-Glucosidase. Also the result revealed 16 types of amino acids, with the highest concentration of Glutamic acid. The N, Na, Mg, Ca and P were the most higher concentration in larvae blood on date palm compared with larvae feeding on sugar cane diet. The body moisture content was higher in sugar cane diet and haemolymph pH value was stable (slightly acidic) in each sugar cane and date palm media recording (6.8).
