Abstract

The thesis examines and determines the design parameters for desalination algae ponds in nature conditions based on the use of algae in the removal of salts from saline water, and water production for use in different purposes. The new concept has been used and tested in previous researches in saline water desalination, where using the algae reduced the cost to the minimum while maintained the efficiency with no reduction.
The aim of the thesis is to determine the design parameters and viability of its application.
The researcher has to work in three phases, the first phase was applied to determine the optimum retention time, the second phases was applied to determine the optimum algae amount and the third phase was applied to determine the optimum water depth to get maximum TDS removal efficiency.
The achieved results were 7 days as an optimum retention time, 400 ml as an optimum algae amount and 20 cm as an optimum water depth. Using these three parameters in low temperature conditions the results achieved TDS removal efficiency of 91 %.
