Summary of Study
Introduction:
Reading disabilities is considered one of the most common difficulties among children with learning disabilities. These difficulties are crystallized in low-rate of academic achievement one year or more than the actual child’s mental age.
Some students with reading disabilities are missing the appropriate care they need as they suffer from social and psychological maladjustment. Learning disabilities may manifest itself in the academic aspect, leading into several problems in personal or social aspects. Consequently, the social as well as the emotional side of people with learning disabilities should be considered as it is as important as the academic one.
Reading disabilities could be occurred because of deficiency in sensation, as several children with special needs suffer multiple problems in the sensory integration that isn’t usually -evident among their fathers and mothers. If those problems are not well handled, they will affect the emotional, sensory, and perceptual ability of children.
Problem of the Study:
Sensory integration represents one of the most important problems in education, training, and adaptive behavior of individuals. Hence, there should be solutions and approaches to be followed for resolving such problems and for developing the educational skills, as well as the personal and social skills for those persons. from the above mentioned, the study problem could be formed in the following main question:
”Could reading disabilities be remediated and the adaptive behavior of children be improved using a proposed program based on sensory integration?”
Purpose of the Study:
This study purpose is to remediate reading disabilities and improve adaptive behavior among children in Libya through a sensory- integration-based training program that is designed specifically for that purpose.
Importance of the Study:
The present study significance is embodied in being focused on a remedial program for treating reading disabilities and improving adaptive behavior using a program based on sensory integration.
First:The Theoretical Importance :
A- Increasing the amount of information and facts about children with reading disabilities and types of these disabilities that are associated with sensual integration, which may help defining the defect in those children.
B- Trying to consider the problem of reading disability regarding diagnosis and treatment.
C- Directing the attention of the officials and those in charge to the importance of the sensory integration that can help improve the adaptive behaviour.
Second:The Applied Importance:
A- The diagnostic tools may assist the primary stage teachers to diagnose their students’ reading disabilities earlier.
B- Presenting a proposed model of a remedial program to be used in children with reading disabilities that includes procedures and steps following appropriate strategies and techniques.
C- The program may help teachers in remediating reading disabilities among children.
Hypotheses of the study:
1. There are statistically significant differences between the ranks of mean scores of the experimental group and those of the control group on Reading Disabilities Diagnotic Scale after applying the training program in favor of the experimental group .
