Abstract Rice is one of the most important food crops in the world and consumed by more than 3.5billion people. It is estimated that, by the year 2025, it will be necessary to produce about 60% more rice than what is currently produced to meet the food needs of a growing world population. In Egypt, rice is cultivated as a summer crop in about two million Fadden. The total paddy production is about 6-8 million tons. Egypt successfully recorded the highest productivity per unit area over the last decade with its national average which reached 10.2 tons/ha. Egypt exports annually around 1 million tons of rice in the past decade. |
