Abstract

LASIK is the most common surgery used to correct myopia; in which a flap is created, and the cornea is ablated with the excimer laser, irrigated with BSS, and the flap is reapplied again on the cornea.
A critical step in LASIK surgery is flap creation, that can be done either mechanically using mechanical microkeratome , or with the femtosecond laser.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the postoperative flap thickness post-lasik created by the mechanical microkeratome moria 110 with medlogic plano head and that created with moria M2 90 using anterior segment optical coherent tomography .
45 patients (81 eyes) were enrolled in this prospective study, 17men ,28 women with age ranged from 20 to 50 years. They were recruited from the outpatient clilnic of ophthalmology department ,El-Minia University Hospital.
The 81eyes were subdivided into two study groups , group A include 38 eyes with mechanical metallic microkeratome 110 with medlogic plano head and group B including 43 eyes with microkeratome Moria 90 head.
Preoperative evaluation included :-
Refraction .
Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA).
Best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA).
Anterior segment examination by slit lamp biomicroscopy.
Intraocular pressure by Goldmann applanation tonometry.
Fundus examination by indirect ophthalmoscopy.
Corneal topography and pentacam.
Postoperative evaluation included :-
Visual acuity.
Flap thickness post lasik and bed thickness post operative one weak by anterior segment optical coherent tomography.
In our study we found that the thickness of flaps created with microkeratome moria M2 90 had much better predictability and more preservance of bed thickness than those created with the microkeratome Moria M2 110with medlogic plano head.
