The study dealt with books and libraries in the Iraqi metropolises throughout Islamic history (41 AH / 662 AD - 656 AH / 1258 AD) (Basra - Baghdad - Kufa). It included an introduction and five chapters. The study relied on a method of historical research. The study found many of the results including the following : - Positive relationship between the conditions of the Iraqi society in Iraq’s three metropolises (Basra - Baghdad - Kufa) and libraries in the Umayyad and Abbasid era. - Most of the Iraqi libraries destroyed by wars that were evident phenomenon of during Umayyad and Abbasid era in Iraq and appeared This is especially after the fall of Baghdad by the Mongols in (656 AH / 1258 AD). - The burning and destruction of books libraries continuation of the disasters that have had a significant impact in determining the fate of libraries in Iraq during the Umayyad and Abbasid era. One of the main reasons that led to the loss of most of the books and the destruction following : - wars and external invasion - internal strife - Fire and spend drowning incidents and deal. The existence of a large correlation between the evolution of the case of books and libraries in Iraq’s three metropolises (Basra - Baghdad - Kufa) if greater the prosperity movement and authoring books whenever he returned to the library as often and Census. The study also lists many of the recommendations was the most important: the need to return to a charitable waqf system as a resource Mali have eternal way towards building an active office movement, as it was during the Umayyad and Abbasid era. And also consolidate the understanding and perception have scholars and researchers of contemporary Arab experience in the field of libraries in general, and libraries in the Umayyad and Abbasid era in particular. And interest in modern libraries in Iraq and work to provide them with the best of modern office systems.
