Abstract

The aim of the present work is the early detection of leukemic transformation in acute lymphoblastic leukemia. (ALL) by elucidating chromosomal karyotyping and sister chromatid exchange (SCE) frequency and elucidating the manner and behaviour of DNA segregation. In addition this thesis includes haematological study and assignment of some biochemical parameters.
The study includes 40 newly diagnosed ALL and 15 healthy age and sex matched children served as control group. Blood samples were obtanied on admission and before beginning chemotherapy in leukemic cases and repeated after
4 weeks. Laboratory investigations were carried out including CBC, serum total protein, albumin, globulins, uric acid and LDH activity. In newly diagnosed ALL there was a significant increase in erythr. G-6-PHD activity and a decrease in SOD (p<O.OOl). After remission the two enzymes improved largely.
