Abstract

The aim of the study was to examine the effect of teaching program on knowledge and psychological adjustment about puberty changes among girls. Quasi-experimental design was used. The study was conducted in the preparatory and secondary schools of El-Shohada City, Menoufiya Governorate. A purposive sample consisted of 265 participants aged from 12-16 years old have been involved in the study.
Tools of the study
Data was collected through using the following tools
1-Structured interview questionnaire:
An interview questionnaire was conducted and developed by the researcher after reviewing the related literature to collect the necessary data from the girls. It was included the following:
• Socio-demographic data: This included data about name, age, school year, father’s level of education, mother’s level of education, family monthly income.
• Medical history: This includes the girls’ history about medical complain, medications.
• Menstrual history: this includes the age of menarche, duration, rhythm, interval, as well as consistency and menstrual flow.
• Surgical History: this includes the past history of having surgical operations.
• Knowledge source regarding puberty: it includes questions about the right age for appearance of puberty changes like breast changes, pubic hair appearance, height and weight increase and the source of getting information about puberty issues.
• Knowledge evaluation about puberty: it includes questions about the importance and hazards of the puberty stage.
• Knowledge about physiological changes of puberty: it includes questions about the physiological changes of puberty like breast changes, the component of female reproductive system either the internal and external organs, the functions of these organs, and the functions of feminine hormones.
• Personal Hygiene: it contains questions about bathing and clothing.
II- Psychological adjustment to puberty was measured through OSIQ Offer self- image questionnaire: it is used to measure the personality traits in 5 scales (11 areas):
• Psychological Self PS : impulse control, emotional tone, body image;
• Social Self SS : social functioning, ethical values, vocational attitudes
• Sexual Self SX : sexuality
• Familial Self FS : family functioning
• Coping Self CS: self-confidence, mental health, self-reliance, idealism.
