Abstract

Content of the Thesis:
Volume I: it is divided into an introduction and three parts as follows:
The Introduction:
This part tackles the definition and the discovery of glass. It also shows the importance of glass in our daily.
THE FIRST PART: A Historical study of glass manufacture
This part is subdivided into two chapters:
Chapter one: History of glass manufacturing it shows historically and in brief the development of glass manufacturing from ancient times till the 19th century.
Chapter two: Major centers of glass manufacturing it discusses the most important glassmaking centers, the development of glassmaking in each center.
THE SECOND PART: A descriptive study
It is a description of the dining room utensils of Abdeen palace museum.
THE THIRD PART: An analytical study
This part is subdivided into three chapters:
Chapter one: Manufacturing of glass it covers raw materials of glass and the general stages of glassmaking. It also describes in details the different manufacturing techniques used in shaping the glass artifacts.
Chapter two: Decorative techniques it discusses the major decoration techniques of glass.
Chapter three: Decorative motifs it deals with different decorative ornaments represented on the collection subject of the study. The motifs are divided into five types including the floral, geometric, epigraphic, living organism’s ornaments as well as other shapes of ornaments.
Volume II: it contains an album of the study collection photographed by the researcher, and some plates from different references.
