Abstract Bronchopulmonary dysplasia is a clinicopathological symptom complex associated with prolonged oxygen and ventilator therapy. The incidence of the disease is inversely related to birth weight. The incidence is increased recently because of the progress in the management of premature neonate. Bronchopulmonary dysplasia is caused immaturity of the Jung, barotrauma and infection. by oxygen toxicity, The disease can be diagnosed by clinical examination, blood gases and radiological examination. Management of the disease is done through surfactant therapy, high frequency ventilator, corticosteroid, diuretics, bronchodilators and Vit. A therapy. ECMO is under trial for prophylaxis against bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Long term pulmonary sequences in survivors with BPD are related to the disease itself and to the th<!rapeutic management of the disease . Growth failure of these infant 1s very common and the cause is uncertain. |
