Abstract This study concerning ’’The Portrait of the American Woman as Reflected in selected Novels by Zora Neale Hurston’’ begins with a brief background about the Harlem Renaissance Movement and its effect on many writings through this period. Afterwards, the thesis presents Zora and her major works; trying to analyze the reasons that made her discuss many issues concerning the American women in general and black ones in specific. The three selected novels to be discussed in this thesis are Jonah’s Gourd Vine (1934), Their Eyes Were Watching God (1937) and Seraph on the Suwanee (1948). The thesis is divided into an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. |
