Abstract The aim of this thesis is to shed light on the influence of Frantz Fanon (1925-1961) on Henry Louis Gates (1950- ) concerning the role of native language in reclaiming the cultural identity of the African peoples in particular, and of the previously colonized people in general. The thesis will also try to discuss and explain, through real examples, how colonization and oppression can affect the identity of the colonized people in many sides, culturally and linguistically in particular. This argument will be discussed by referring to some books, essays, articles and speeches by Frantz Fanon (1925-1961) and Henry Louis Gates (1950- ). This thesis is divided into an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. |
