Abstract

Cancer is considered one of the most common causes of death worldwide. Recent studies proved that usage of chemotherapeutic drugs as cisplatin and cyclophosphamide cause several serious side effects on the immune system.
One hundred and eighty female Swiss mice were equally divided into six groups (30 mice per group). Gp.(1) was kept as the negative control. Groups (2&5&6) were injected for one time intraperitoneally by 2.5× 106 Ehrlich ascites carcinoma cells. group 2 was kept as the positive control with no treatment. Groups (3&5) were injected daily for 12 days with cisplatin 10 mg/kg body weight by intraperitoneal injection (0.2 ml/mouse). Groups (4&6) were injected daily for 12 days with cyclophosphamide 100 mg/kg body weight by intraperitoneal injection (0.2 ml/mouse). Two blood samples were collected 6 and 12 days post treatment from all groups. Blood samples were collected from the retro-orbital venous plexus. Each blood sample was divided into 2 parts. The 1st part was collected in clean Wassermann tubes containing disodium salt of EDTA for hematological examination. The 2nd part was taken without anticoagulant in a chemical free centrifuge test tube for separation of serum for biochemical studies. Tissue specimens were collected from the ovaries, kidneys and liver for histopathological examination. Also tissue specimens were collected from liver and kidneys for detection of DNA damage by using comet assay.
