Abstract Combining abilities and heterosis from diallel crosses in fowl. Published for master of Science, Ain Shams University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Poultry Production, Egypt.1999 This study was conducted at Poultry Breeding Farm, Poultry Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University. The aim of this work was to evaluate and compare the performance of purebreds and crossbreds and determining some phenotypic and genetic parameters. The results could be summarized as follows: The MoM crossbred had higher fertility and hatchability percentages when compared with the other groups. With respect to cumulative mortality rate which recorded from 0 till 8 weeks of age, it could noticed that the MeMo purebred recorded the highest rate as compared to the other groups. Feed consumption for MM purebred was higher than those of MeMo, MoM and MMo genotypes. Concerning the feed conversion ratio, the results showed that the best feed conversion was associated with MeMo purebred as compared to the other crosses. The MoMo purebred had a positive effect on maturation measurements included keel length, shank length, body depth, and comb and wattle lengths as compared to the other crosses. The MM purebred produced more egg number than those of the other groups. The MeMo purebred had the highest dressing percentage, major pectoral muscle, giblets and edible meat compared to the other genotypes. |
