Abstract Using information technology in all fields of our life with its benefits will positively affect the efficiency, productivity, quality, health and safety in all our activities. Within this context, Augmented Reality (AR) technology brings a new perspective into information technology, which can be put into service in various fields of our life, in addition, the field of architecture on both the educational and professional levels. Egyptian institutions of architecture today are largely unaware of new concepts such as AR and its opportunities for architectural practice, and the prototypes that are being developed by researchers worldwide. The rapid evolution of AR technology has changed the face of architectural visualization and education, especially when technology has been combined with traditional tools. This combination has created new opportunities for improving the quality of architectural visualization and education experiences, as AR technology affects architects on two distinct levels; the educational level and the level of professional practice. The thesis is divided into six chapters. The research methodology is qualitative and quantitative. In the qualitative research, findings are not arrived at by statistical methods or other procedures of quantification. Thus, the data has been collected through several methods which include: observation, questionnaire, grade analysis and interviews. To achieve the thesis’s objectives, the case studies have been designed and analyzed using a hypothesis, questionnaires, and grade comparisons. The researcher selected three basic courses to perform the experiment; the Building Construction course (first-year students), the Architectural Design course (second-year students) and the Landscape Design course (fourth-year students), in addition to a personal experience. The case studies were applied to the students at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, in Shebin El-kom, during the first semester of the 2015-2016 academic year. |
