Abstract Mohamed Said Abu Elkheir M.Sc., Fac.Sci.Ain Shams Univ., Cairo, 2016 Hematological and Pathological Studies on the Effect of Warfarin in Adult Male Albino Rats. Keywords: warfarin , prothrombin time , total oxidant status , glutathione, liver, spleen , kidney. The current study was designed to examine the effect of different doses of warfarin (0.03 and 0.06 mg/100g b.wt ) on haematological, biochemical parameters and there correlation with pathological changes in liver, kidney and spleen in male albino rats . Oral warfarin administration led to a significant prolongation of prothrombin time , partial thromboplastin time as well as, elevation of the levels of total oxidant status, total nitric oxide, aspartate aminotransferase and alanin aminotransferase. However warfarin administration showed a significant decrease in the levels of blood viscosity, red blood cell osmotic fragility, total antioxidant status, reduced glutathione and oxidized glutathione. Warfarin showed non significant change in the levels of protein C , protein S, serum triglycerides, cholesterol, high density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein, , creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase. In correlation with biochemical and haematological results, warfarin showed changes in the examined organs (liver, spleen and kidney). |
