6.1 Occurrence of zoonotic S. aureus in dairy farm samples
(milk, teat swabs, nasal swabs from animals and dairy
utensils):
• One hundred and fifty two Milk samples, fifty seven teat swabs,
one hundred and ten nasal swabs from animals and five dairy
utensils’ swab samples were collected from five farms at ELMenoufia
and El-Gharbia Governorate.
• The overall prevalence rate of S. aureus in milk, teat swabs,
animal nasal swabs and dairy utensils using culture method was
35.5%, 42.1%, 28.18% and 40%, respectively.
• The overall isolation rate of S. aureus from dairy workers’ hand
and nasal swabs was 55.26% and 44.73%, respectively.
6.2 Occurrence of coagulase positive S. aureus in dairy farms
and dairy workers:
• The prevalence rate of CPS using coagulase test in milk, teat
swabs, animal nasal swabs and dairy utensils in relation to
positive S. aureus culture was 38.8%, 29.2%, 48.4% and 50%,
respectively. However the comparable prevalence according to
the prevalence of clfA gene was 90.5%, 85.7%, 93.3%, 100% in
relation to total positive and 12.5%, 10.5%, 12.7% and 20% in
relation to total samples examined.
• The prevalence rate of CPS in dairy workers’ hand and nasal
swabs in relation to the positive S.aurues culture was 33.33%
and 29.41%, respectively.
