Abstract (1) Measure atrial electromechanical delay in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM) and in a control group. (2) Find the echocardiographic parameters that affect atrial electromechanical delay. (3) Examine the correlation between atrial electromechanical delay and atrial electrical activity [P wave duration, P-wave dispersion (PWD) and P terminal force (PTF)]. METHODS: A total of 73 patients with IDCM (age 36±17years; 46 (63%) men and 25 age and sex matched healthy subjects were studied. Intra-atrial electromechanical delay and atrial mechanics was measured with 2D strain imaging. from the 12-lead electrocardiograms, P wave duration, PWD and PTF were calculated. Conventional echocardiography and left atrial assessment of myocardial mechanics (strain and strain rate) by speckle tracking were done for both groups. RESULTS: Intra-atrial electromechanical delay was 88.9±84.6 in the IDCM group and 27.4±16.5 in the control group (P< .0001). In the IDCM group, PWD (52.89±15),Pmax(98±17.5) and PTF (58.2±36) were significantly. |
