Abstract

Coccidiosis is still a major health problem with a great economic impact on poultry production. The economic costs are estimated at $1.5 billion worldwide.
Using of anticoccidial drugs led to developing variable degree of resistance against theses drugs in poultry. In addition, accumulation of drug residues in poultry products which may be potentially toxic to human beings is also recorded. So using of safe natural alternatives has become important. Propolis is a resinous substance collected by honeybees from buds compared to exudates of certain trees and plants and stored inside their hives. It has been used in folk medicine from ancient times to treat various ailments.
The current study was carried out to evaluate the activity of propolis and toltrazuril as anticoccidial agents to treat coccidiosis in broiler chicks. Their effects on mortality rate, growth performance parameters (body weight, body weight gain, feed consumption and feed conversion ratio), lesion scores, oocysts output, blood biochemical.
