Abstract

Six genotypes of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) were used as parents i.e., I.171, I.250, I.324, I.372, I.623 and Giza6.
A half diallel cross involving the six parents was made during 2013 summer season, all possible crosses excluding reciprocals, were made by hand between the six parents, this experiment was carried out at ARC, Giza Agriculture Research Station.
In 2014 summer season the six parents and the obtained hybrid seeds from each of 15 crosses were evaluated under two different sowing dates at Ismailia Agricultural Research Stations, the first and second dates were 1st May and 1st June 2014, respectively. There experiments were grown in a randomized complete block design with three replications.
Aiming of this investigation was to estimate combining ability according to Griffing (1956), Method-2, Model-1, heterosis for crosses in two directions, mid parent (M.P) and better parent (B.P). Also, calculating genetic variance components i.e., additive (D) and dominance components (H1 and H2) as well as derived parameters according to Hayman’s (1954 a & b) for some agronomic characters i.e. stem length, No. of branches plant-1, No. of pods plant-1, pods weight plant-1 (g), 100-pod weight(g), number of seeds plant-1, seed weight plant-1 (g), 100-seed weight(g), shelling %, pod yield (Ard/fed), seed oil % and seed protein % in six peanut genotypes and their hybrids.
