Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out at Shandaweel Research Station (Sohag Governorate), Agricultural Research Centre, Ministry of Agriculture, Egypt during the two successive seasons of 2012 and 2013 to study the effect of response of Egyptian cotton to alternative irrigation systems with NPK rates and frequencies under two planting dates on growth, Flowering & Earliness, yield & its components and Quality characters for the Egyptian cotton (Gossypium barbadense L.), variety Giza - 90. It is classified as a long staple variety grown in Upper Egypt which was developed from a cross between Giza -83 and Dandara (Awad et al. (2004)).For each season, the field trails included seventy two treatments represented the combination between planting dates, three alternative irrigation patterns, three NPK fertilizer levels and four splitting of NPK.A strip plot design with three replicates for the two planting dates during each season was used. In each planting date the alternative irrigation patterns represented the main plots treatments, NPK fertilization represented the sub plot treatments and the splitting of NPK represented the sub sub plot treatments. The 1st dose of NPK fertilization was added before the first irrigation, the 2nd dose of NPK fertilization was added before second irrigation, the 3rd dose NPK fertilization was added before the third irrigation, the 4th dose NPK fertilization was added before the fourth irrigation, while, the 5th dose NPK fertilization was added before the fifth irrigation. The factors of study for every planting date March and April were;B. Irrigation patterns: 1. Fixed furrow irrigation (FFI). 2. Alternate furrow irrigation (AFI) 3. Conventional furrow irrigation (CFI).
