Abstract This research aims to identify the zoo design process to collaborate in the connection creation and enriching environments for people, plants, and animals. Over time, zoos’ physical forms and wildlife captivity have been a direct reflection of man’s activity and his blending into the natural world and it becomes a reflection of our society’s values and understanding of science. The process of master plan is stud ied to define the purpose of the zoo in clear and concise terms; it guides the development and evolution of the zoo, The strategic plan clarifies the Zoo philosophy and the development goals to fulfill the requirements of recreation, education, conservation and research in the zoo design objective. The zoo planning looks the physical make-up of the site and its conceptual organization. This includes establishment of entrance and orientation, movement through the site, a story or theme that flows through the site, and ordering and placement of specific exhibits, facilities, and infrastructure. Following a design Criteria by which the zoo design serves the needs of animals, visitors, and the management staff. Giza zoo is considered as a case study, the developed guidelines help in the analysis and synthesis of the selected case study and then evaluating it using the design criteria used through master planning. Thus, a comparative analysis took place between the elephant exhibits of Giza zoo and Copenhagen zoo to get exposed to different understanding of zoo exhibits and the reasons of their success and failure to find out the recommendations required for future research. There are a lot of changes happening in the world which creates a new opportunities, so zoos will have to evolve and develop faster to meet the new challenges and the future requirements. |
