Abstract Enlargement of the cervical lymph nodes is a common finding in the primary care outpatient setting. The most important and annoying for both the patient and the physician is detecting whether the enlarged lymph nodes are benign or malignant that help in assessing the prognosis and treatment. Conventional imaging modalities as ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) can be used in the detection of enlarged cervical nodes. However, they cannot accurately differentiate benign from malignant lymph nodes. Histopathological examination of the cervical lymph nodes provides an accurate information about the diagnosis, but it is an invasive method. |
