Abstract
Linguistics has been trying to come up with universal theories of language. Linguists, sociolinguists, and psycholinguists have focused on the different aspects of language. The sum of all their efforts has, no doubt, contributed to the developing field of pragmatics. As such, the present thesis was carried out with the aim of analyzing literary texts pragmatically using three tools: Deixis, Implicature, and Speech Acts. The results of The Armies of the Nights analysis have revealed the author’s ability to employ these tools consciously to show his view and convince the reader. It was also concluded that any linguistic analysis for literary works should help the reader to get better understanding of the work and help in showing the hidden message of the author.
