Abstract

Beaches subjected to erosion and there are many scenarios to protect
beaches against erosion, one of these scenarios is constructing breakwaters.
There are many types of breakwaters such as rubble mound and caisson;
this is from material, which they made from it. In addition, there are many
types of it according to the system of it such as detached breakwaters and
floating breakwaters and sea wall and groins.
The study applies numerical model consists of three modules, wave
module, hydrodynamic module and sediment transport module, Damietta
harbour and also Ras El Bar resort. The study also makes verification of these
harbours , gives some suggestions to improve the effect of the breakwaters in
both Damietta harbour and Ras El Bar resort and shows the results of these
suggestions and its effects on sediment transport in the both harbours.
In this study it is suggested to lengthen the main breakwater of
Damietta harbour to control the sediment transport at inlet of the navigable
channel.
