Abstract
Sunset Yellow FCF (SY) is one of the synthetic azo dyes used in food industry, pharmaceutical and cosmetics as coloring agent. The aim of present study was to investigate the toxic impact of different doses of SY in two separate experiments; the first is a short-term 13 week toxicity study and the second is a medium-term liver carcinogenesis bioassay. Experiment (1): Male Sprague Dawley (S.D.) rats, 6-7 weeks of age weighing 170g were divided equally into four groups: group (1) received no treatment and was -ve controls. group (2) was administered with SY at 161.4 mg/kg b.wt. dose by intragastroluminal gavage (i.g.). group (3) was administered with 8 mg/kg b.wt. SY (i.g). group (4) was administered with 40.35 mg/kg b.wt. SY (i.g.).At the end of experiment after 13 weeks blood samples were individually collected from each rat and organs 28 body organs were prepared for histopathological investigation.
