Abstract The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of intra-articular injection of hyaluronic acid, PRP alone or in combination on experimentally induced osteoarthritis in the rabbit knee. Twenty five adult male baladi rabbits were subjected to surgically induced osteoarthritis in their left knees through partial medial meniscectomy and section of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). At the 5th week, the rabbits were divided into five groups (five rabbits each): Control groups: group І : to confirm osteoarthritis in the left knee and compared with the non operated right knee and group П : saline treated group. GroupШ : hyaluronic acid treated group. GroupVІ : platelet rich plasma treated group. group V : hyaluronic acid and platelet rich plasma treated group. One week after the 3rd intra articular injection the rabbits were sacrificed and their knee joints were dissected for gross pathological changes and the specimens were collected for histological, immunohistochemical and ultra structural studies. |
