Abstract

This study was conducted on salt affected soil at Kasr El-Basel village, south district of Etsa, El-Fayoum governorate, Egypt, during two winter seasons (2012/2013 and 2013/2014). To identify the effect of drainage, applied compost at rate of 20m3 in combination with amino acid (proline sprayed at rate of 3 mg/L fed-1 during 20, 45, and 60 days after sowing) and biofertilizer (salinity durable bacteria) as either solely or combined treatments for improving some soil properties as well as the vegetative growth, nutritional status and yield of barley and sugar beet crops (Hordeum vulgare, c.v. Giza 123 and Beta vulgaris L, c.v. Galorya).
The obtained results indicated that, the values of EC,SAR, ESP, CaCO3 and pH, were sharply reduced in the case of without drains by about 39.13, 45.68, 50.18, 12.50 and 4.98%, respectively, after applications of compost, proline and biofertilizer (Com+Pro+Bio). While with drains 42.48, 48.33, 53.95, 14.17 and 5.80%, respectively. However, its effect on OM and CEC were opposite trend caused an increase of OM and CEC. Also, application of compost+proline+biofertilizer were more pronounced in decreasing soil bulk density recording about 12.12 and 13.08% lower than control in case of without drains or with drains, respectively. While it increased hydraulic conductivity, total porosity and soil moisture content. Also, application (Com+Pro+Bio) gave higher available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium than other treatments in case of without drains or with drains.
