Abstract

The thesis is devoted to the development of new methods for the analysis of some Nitrogen and Sulphur containing drugs, namely: risperidone (RIS), clonazepam (CLZ), paroxetine HCl (PRX), pantoprazole sodium (PAZ) and itopride HCl (ITO) in pharmaceutical preparations. A general introduction about some Nitrogen and Sulphur containing drugs was included in the first part. Two simple, accurate and sensitive spectrophotometric methods were introduced for the determination of risperidone in pure form and in the pharmaceutical preparations through charge-transfer reactions using with various π acceptors: 7, 7, 8, 8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) and p-chloranilic acid (pCA). A simple, highly sensitive and validated spectrofluorimetric method was developed for the determination of Clonazepam (CLZ). The method is based on reduction of the nitro group of clonazepam with zinc/CaCl2, then the product reacted with 2-cyanoacetamide (2-CNA) in the presence of ammonia (25%) yielding highly fluorescent product. A new and accurate micellar high performance liquid chromatographic method coupled with ultraviolet detection was developed for simultaneous determination of Clonazepam (CLZ) and Paroxetine (PRX) using a monolithic C-18 column. An accurate high performance liquid chromatographic method was developed for the simultaneous determination of pantoprazole sodium and Itopride HCl in combined dosage form using fluorometric detection. The thesis comprises five main parts including; 205 references, 37 tables, 27 figures, 1 scheme and ends with an Arabic summary.
