Abstract

Research Aim:
The purpose of the study is to adopt a set of indicators to measure the quality of tourism statistics in Egypt to guide its efforts to strengthen its system of tourism statistics.
More specifically the Research objectives are:
1. Evaluating the current situation of tourism statistics in Egypt.
2. Applying a framework for measuring the various aspects of tourism statistics’ quality in Egypt on the basis of the international frameworks.
3. Measuring the users of tourist statistics ’trust degree.
5. Research Questions
• Research Question 1: what is the Current Tourist Statistical System in Egypt?
• Research Question 2: What is the level of quality of current tourism Statistics in Egypt?
• Research Question 3: What is the degree of trust in current tourism Statistics in Egypt?
6. Research Methodology
In general, the study will depend on the secondary and the primary data to reach its findings and to suggest an adopted framework to capture the quality aspects related to tourism statistics in Egypt.
The research approach for the study is an applied study, however, is less universal in its scope: it seeks not necessarily to create wholly new knowledge about the world but to apply existing theoretical knowledge to particular problems or issues. Such problems or issues may arise in particular policy, planning or management situations. Policy studies, planning and management are themselves fields of study which have developed a body of theory.
Because they are related to areas of practice they can be seen as applied disciplines. In these fields, therefore, there can be such a thing as applied theory.
Research which sought to develop or elaborate the model in general would be theoretical whereas research which simply used the model as a framework for examining a problem in a particular organization would be called applied. This study would apply the anticipated framework on a national tourist statistical system in Egypt.
This study will rely on apply The Data Quality Assessment Framework (DQAF) introduced by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for assessing the quality of existing data about tourism statistics in Egypt.
The IMF DQAF identifies quality-related features of governance of statistical systems, statistical processes, and statistical products. It addresses a broad range of questions that are captured through the prerequisites of quality and five dimensions of quality: assurances of integrity, methodological soundness, accuracy and reliability, serviceability, and accessibility.
Also, the study will make use of the model proposed by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on how to monitor the user confidence degree in official statistics. As for the trust assessment process, a questionnaire on a sample of tourism academia will be distributed.
7. Research Limitations
7.1 Place limitation
The study will be applied in two places in Egypt that produced official tourism statistics:
• The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism (MOT).
• The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
7.2 Time limitation
The researcher collected data for such a study within three years from 2013 to 2016. The results of this study are based on the information, which the researcher obtained during that period.
8. Research plan
Study consists of five core chapters as follows:
• Chapter1: The Current Tourist Statistical System in Egypt.
• Chapter2: The Data Quality Assessment Framework (DQAF).
• Chapter3: Measuring trust in Egyptian official statistics.
• Chapter4: The Field study analysis.
• Chapter5: Result and Recommendations of study.
