Abstract

This study was carried out to develop soft tissue cephalometric norms among a sample of Jordanians.
A sample of 100 Jordanian adults was equally divided into 50 adult males and 50 adult females, with age ranging from 19-25 years. All subjects were volunteers attending as students at the princess Aisha Bint Al-Hussein Faculty of Nursing, Al-Hussein Bin Talal University and Maan College, AL Balqa Applied University.
All subjects had normal occlusion, balanced facial profile, no previous orthodontic treatment, no history of trauma, free from congenital or craniofacial abnormalities and had no sever crowding.
Lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken in which the subjects were guided to close in centric occlusion and their lips to be in a relaxed posture.
Analysis of all soft tissue measurements were carried out using a special computer software program. The collected results were tabulated and statistically analyzed.
from the results in this study, it could be concluded that:-
1- Normal values of soft tissue cephalometric measurements for adult Jordanian males and females were established.
2- Sexual dimorphism exists in most of the lateral soft tissue cephalometric standards of Jordanian adults which must be considered when diagnosing and treating any of two sexes.
