Abstract

Background: Type II Diabetes Mellitus is a major public health problem
all over the world wherever, compliance toward different therapeutic regimen is
a key factor in type II of Diabetes Mellitus. This study aimed to assess
compliance of type II diabetic patients with their therapeutic regimen. A
descriptive design was utilized in the current study. A convenience sample of
158 patients with type II Diabetes Mellitusfrom the outpatient clinic affiliated to
Damietta General Hospital and EI-Takhsosy Hospital.Three tools were used to
collect the needed data; general characteristics questionnaire,Morisky
Medication Adherence Scale, and factors affecting their compliance. Results of
the present study revealed that, more than three quarter of participants were
noncompliance toward therapeutic regimen. Educated, occupied and urbanized
patients had a higher level of adherence than others. Conclusion:general
characteristics, diet, therapeutic regimen, follow up; social support and
psychological status are affecting the level of compliance of patients with type
2. Compliance was not influenced by patients’ knowledge about DM. Results of
the present study recommended that, educational program about DM and its
treatment must be developed to enhance level of compliance.
